Monrovia, Liberia – July 1, 2025
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep regret and outrage following a horrifying armed robbery and rape incident involving a 31-year-old woman in the Mount Barclay community, Montserrado County.

According to eyewitness accounts and initial reports, the crime occurred in the early hours of June 26, 2025, when unidentified armed men broke into the victim’s residence at around 4:00 a.m. During the violent invasion, the woman was held at knifepoint and raped by one of the attackers.

Despite the trauma she endured, the survivor bravely reported the incident and immediately sought help — an act the Ministry has strongly commended.

In a statement issued today, the Gender Ministry condemned the heinous act of sexual and gender-based violence, describing it as both inhumane and unacceptable. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to seeking justice for survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable under the law.

“This deeply disturbing incident highlights the urgent need for continued vigilance and stronger community action against gender-based violence,” the statement read.

The Ministry, through its JDJ One-Stop Center, responded promptly by facilitating comprehensive medical care, including a full medical examination and psychosocial support for the survivor. Officials say they are working closely with the Liberia National Police and other stakeholders to ensure the attackers are apprehended and prosecuted.

The Ministry is also urging citizens to remain alert, report suspicious activity, and support survivors of violence in their communities.

This incident comes amid growing concern over rising cases of sexual violence and crime in urban areas. MoGCSP reiterated its call for greater collaboration among law enforcement, healthcare providers, civil society, and communities to protect vulnerable citizens, especially women and children.

As investigations continue, the Ministry has pledged to provide ongoing support to the survivor and ensure her path to recovery is met with compassion and justice.
