Monrovia, Liberia – Recent claims circulating on social media allege that the Government of Liberia is directly responsible for the poor state of parks across Monrovia. However, a closer look reveals that these claims are misleading and politically charged.

According to verified information, the management of Monrovia’s major parks is not under the direct control of the government. In 2021, under the administration of former President George Weah, a 20-year contract was signed with Green Park Management, a private company tasked with maintaining and operating the parks.

When President Joseph Boakai’s administration sought to reassess or reclaim control of the parks in 2024, critics argued that the move was politically motivated, targeting the former president’s legacy. The matter was eventually taken to court, where it remains unresolved.

This means the current government cannot legally assume management responsibility until the case is settled.

✅ Verdict: The claim that the Boakai government is responsible for park management in Monrovia is false and misleading. The parks remain under the control of Green Park Management pending the outcome of ongoing court proceedings.
