River Gee County | January 22, 2026 — Report Coming from Voice of River Gee Says the county home-based football and kickball teams remains stranded in Monrovia following the county’s elimination from the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet, as promised player allowances have yet to be paid, despite repeated assurances from county authorities.
Most players recruited from Monrovia have reportedly abandoned the team’s camp and returned home after weeks of waiting without compensation. However, several home-based players continue to remain in camp under increasingly difficult conditions, hoping the county will honor its financial commitments.
The remaining players are currently being accommodated at facilities provided by River Gee County Senator Francis Saidy Dopoh. While the gesture has been widely praised as generous, players describe the arrangement as unsustainable.
One player, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed frustration and concern over the situation.
“The Senator has really tried his best for us, but we cannot continue to increase his expenses. We have families and responsibilities. If nothing changes, we will have no choice but to go back home,” the player said.
The prolonged delay in payment has negatively affected team morale and raised concerns among sports stakeholders about River Gee County’s commitment to athlete welfare and the future of its sports programs.
Addressing the issue, River Gee County Superintendent Mike Tarpeh Swengbe acknowledged the delay but appealed for patience. He said he is working closely with the County Sports Steering Committee Chairman, George Kannedy Doe, to resolve the matter.
“Latest Friday, January 23, 2026, the cheque will be ready and payment will commence,” Superintendent Swengbe assured.
Despite this pledge, players remain skeptical, noting that similar promises in the past have gone unfulfilled.

Sports advocates and residents are now urging county authorities to expedite the payment process, warning that continued delays could damage River Gee County’s sporting reputation and discourage athlete participation in future national competitions.
River Gee County’s football and kickball teams were both eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet. The football team suffered a decisive defeat to Bong County, while the kickball team recorded a victory against Gbarpolu County that proved insufficient to advance further.
As the delay persists, uncertainty continues to surround the welfare of the players and the future of organized sports in River Gee County.
