Foya City, Lofa County – May 23, 2026 — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has arrived in Foya City, Lofa County, to officially launch the long-anticipated pavement project for the Mendikorma Voinjama highway, a development expected to improve transportation and regional trade in northern Liberia.

The Liberian leader arrived Friday morning aboard a Mission Aviation Fellowship aircraft along with members of his delegation ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled near the Liberia–Sierra Leone border in Mendikorma.

Upon arrival at the Foya airstrip, President Boakai was warmly welcomed by Francis S. Nyumalin, alongside local chiefs, elders, and county officials who gathered to receive the President.

Also present at the airport were Lafayette Roland Giddings and representatives from Pavifort Associates, the company contracted to carry out the highway pavement works. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Alimou Sanu Barrie, joined officials in welcoming the President ahead of the official launch.

The Mendikorma Voinjama road project is expected to enhance connectivity between communities in Lofa County and neighboring Sierra Leone, while also boosting commerce, transportation, and access to essential services in the region.

Residents and local authorities have described the project as a major step toward improving infrastructure and opening economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.
