The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) has announced significant progress on the Voinjama solar electrification project, with the installation of solar panels, popularly known as the “solar mountain,” nearing completion in Lofa County.
According to RREA, the ambitious renewable energy project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by August 2026, bringing thousands of residents closer to enjoying reliable and sustainable electricity for the first time in many years. Approximately 10,000 homes are expected to be connected to the power supply.
The project combines solar photovoltaic (PV) generation, battery storage, and hybrid systems to improve electricity supply across several parts of Lofa County, including Voinjama, Kolahun, Massabolahun, Bolahun, Foya, and surrounding communities along the corridor.
Upon completion, citizens are expected to benefit from a stable power supply that will boost businesses, improve healthcare and educational services, and strengthen economic activities across the county.

RREA described the project as part of the Government of Liberia’s broader effort to expand renewable energy access in rural communities and improve the living conditions of underserved populations.
The agency also praised the support of the Government of Liberia, the World Bank, and the people of Lofa County for helping advance what it described as a transformative development initiative for the region.
