LIBERIA: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will administer another inspection to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD) between 12-13 September ahead of Match Day 3 & 4 of World Cup qualifiers to know whether the ground meets ‘’stadium compliance status’’ for the competition.
The next rounds of qualifiers for Qatar 2022 World Cup is 6-10 October and the continent’s football governing body has informed the Liberia Football Association (LFA) of its decision to do what it calls ‘’Independent Stadium Re-inspection visit’’ to reassess the status of the SKD.
Upon conclusion of the CAF inspection mission and based on the current stadium compliance status, a final decision will be taken regarding the approval of the stadium and the location of Liberia’s next FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers on Match Day 3 & 4 respectively.
It’ll be the fourth time CAF will be inspecting the SKD in three months and the same CAF Stadium Instructor, Ghanaian Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi will lead the inspection mission.
SKD was denied on the eleventh hour to host Liberia-Central African Republic World Cup Qualifiers weeks after the stadium received commendation from CAF that tremendous works have been done and that the stadium was granted a match approval.
Liberia have played two games away from home following their 2-0 lost to three-time African Champions, Nigeria and a hard fought 1-0 away win to CAR after both Lone Star and the Wild Beasts agreed to reverse the order of Match Day 2 to Match Day 6.
If Mr. Dasoberi’s is satisfied with the works done per CAF minimum stadium requirements criteria over the two days as he was in the middle of August, then SKD will be granted clear to host Liberia home matches going forward in the competition.
The Liberian Lone Star is currently second in Group C three points adrift the Super Eagles and host Cape Verde in October before welcoming Nigeria and CAR for return legs in November and December respectively.
